Procedure to correct General Protection Fault related to Video Driver
Some video drivers under Windows™ 3.1 cause a general protection fault when running ResourceMate®. The following are the instructions to correct this problem:
Make a subfolder called svga at the root level of your hard drive. (That is, make a folder with this path: x:\svga where 'x' is the letter representing your hard drive). You may need to ask your system administrator for help with creating this subfolder).
Click on the SVGA.EXE link below. Choose "Save As" and place it in the svga subfolder created above. This will download svga.exe (423k) onto your computer.
Go to the MS-DOS prompt. (Here's how).
At the c:\> DOS prompt, type in the following commands:
cd \svga [Press Enter]
svga [Press Enter]
Answer Y to the prompt, "Do you want to extract these files now?"
Return to Windows™ by typing exit and pressing the Enter key.
Go into the Main group
Double-lick on Windows Setup
Click on the Options Menu
Click on "Change System Settings"
Click on the "Display" popup
Choose "Other Display" at the bottom of the list
When you see a:\ type
in c:\svga and
click on Ok.
When you see "Choose a display driver from the list", choose one
of the Super VGA options (if in doubt choose Super VGA 640x480 256 colors)
Click on Ok.
When you see the "Change System
Settings" box, click on Ok
You will then need to restart Windows™.
The new video driver will be installed.
To cleanup temporary files/folders from this procedure:
Go to the MS-DOS prompt.
(Here's
how).
At the c:\> DOS
prompt, type in the following commands:
cd \svga [Press Enter]
del *.* [Press Enter]
cd \ [Press Enter]
rd svga [Press Enter]
Return to Windows™ by typing exit and pressing the Enter key.
